Annual Events

Join us for any of our fun events throughout the year!

Family Nights

These events happen through out the year. These fun family functions are seasonally based. We team up with the Foundation Student Ministry to host these nights of fellowship.

Blessing of the Backpacks

At St. John's we send children back to school in a BIG way! In August at our worship services at 9:02 and 11:00 children are asked to bring their backpacks to church with them and at the end of the service, they are invited to bring them to the front for a very special blessing,
This is a favorite Sunday for the church and one that no one wants to miss!

Third Grade Bibles

Our third graders are presented with an age appropriate Bible.  This is the first of three Bibles the church gives to our children.  They receive their second one when they are confirmed in the church and then a third one when they graduate from high school.  St. John's considers the Word of God important and the church hopes to encourage our children to study His Word.

Boy's Retreat

Boys 3rd-5th grade will have fun at Camp Gravatt challenging themselves on the ropes course. They will learn to be “Brave Boys of God” . This day will be spent learning about how God calls us to be a brave and devoted follower of Christ.

Girls' Retreat

Girls 3rd-5th grade will experience an afternoon of biblical truth as they use their creative talents to paint and create. What is true beauty? How can girls face the tough stuff with God’s word?

Trunk-or-Treat

Trunk or treat is a fun, fall event that will be held in October.  Decorated cars line up in the church parking lot with trunks full of candy, and often costumed adults.  Children come from everywhere, wearing their costumes and ready for some treats!  It's a great, safe way to celebrate Halloween.

Advent/"Happy Birthday, Jesus" Bags

At the beginning of Advent season, parents can register for bags that contain fun Advent activities and also supplies to create a birthday cake to celebrate Jesus’s birthday.

Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child is a special ministry of Samaritan's Purse, a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization that provides spiritual as well as physical aid to hurting people around the world.   Operation Christmas Child allows the whole congregation and community to be involved in sharing the love of Jesus Christ with the world. Kids and adults pack shoe boxes full of goodies and surprises to send to children all over the globe in order to wish them a Merry Christmas.  A small shoebox can have a big impact.  What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal.  These simple gifts have the power to change children's lives all over the world.  They are an indication that they are loved by other people and especially by Jesus.
Boxes are provided by the church.  They are collected and blessed in our worship services in November.  Children love to be a part of choosing the goodies and stuffing the boxes.

Christmas Eve Services

St. John's offers several Christmas Eve Services. A 5:00 Family Candlelight service, 7:00 Candlelight service, and 11:00 Communion and Candlelight service are all held in the Sanctuary.

Bible Basics

Bible Basics is a class offered to 3rd graders on the heel of the Presentation of Third Grade Bibles. The curriculum teaches children the books of the Bible and helps them learn how the Bible is written and how to look up scripture. We use videos, games, and puzzles to make the learning fun and easy!

Mission Impact Celebration

Each year during the winter, St. John's holds their annual Missions Impact Celebration (MIC).  This is a time when we, as a church, welcome and interact with our local. regional, and international mission partners. During MIC our children have a unique opportunity to explore missions and search for ways they too can live out the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20).  They are able to visit with guest missionaries from all over the world and participate in activities that truly make a difference in the lives of others in the name of Jesus.

Lent/Holy Week Bags

At the beginning of Lent, parents can register for bags that contain fun Lent and Holy Week activities.

Mother/Son Date Night

This event offers an opportunity for the boys of our church to bond with their moms! Events are always fun for everyone who comes.

Easter Activities

The annual Easter Egg Hunt is a time for fun and fellowship for children ages walking - 4K.  Parents are asked to donate a dozen filled, plastic eggs per participating child.  The children will get to hunt for these eggs that the older children helped hide earlier in the day. Refreshments and playground fun follow the hunt.

Father/Daughter Dance

This wonderful time of bonding between fathers (or grandfathers, or uncles, or special friends) and the exceptional young lady in their life. Everyone gets dressed up and comes out to dance, socialize, laugh, eat and just have a great time.  This event requires advance registration.

Rogers Fishing Trip

In May our 1st through 5th graders and their families spend the day fishing together. We'll end with a picnic eating what we catch...and hot dogs.

Vacation Bible School

VBS, held in June, is one of the most exciting weeks in the life of the church!  At St. John's we invite all children, members or not, to experience the Bible through scripture, music, food, and games. VBS is free of charge, and open to all children!  What better way to kick off summer than a week full of fun and Jesus?  Registration is required so watch for more information!

We hope you will join us for any of our amazing events! If you have questions, please contact our Director of Children's Ministries, Heather Peacock.
